Frequently Asked Questions

Who can join SAYit?
The SAYit Online Research Panel is open to New Zealand residents aged 16 years and over.

Why do I need to give personal information about myself?
We need some information about you to make sure our surveys reflect the opinions of New Zealanders as a whole. Knowing your details, for example, your age and gender, ensures we don't over represent the views of males or females, young or old people. And if we wish to survey a special group, for example, young males in Auckland, then we know who to invite to take part.

How is my personal information used?
Most importantly - we never use any information to market products to you or pass information about you to anyone else. We only use your information for research purposes, to make sure our surveys are accurate, and to select panellists for any special surveys we may carry out.

Could I ever be identified in your research reports?
You will never be able to be identified in any reports - we always keep personal information confidential. Your opinions will be reported in such a way that all personal details that could identify you are removed and replaced by general demographic information (e.g. Wellington, male, 30-39 years).

Do you ever give my personal information to anyone else?
We do not give out to your information to anyone else.

How do I update my personal details if they change?
You will be given the regular opportunities to check that your personal information is correct, and update it if necessary. You can also request to view and update your details anytime by contacting us at members@sayit.co.nz.

How does SAYit tell me when there is a survey to be completed?
We will invite you to take part in a survey by sending you an email that has link to a web-based survey. You click the link (or cut and paste in into your web browser) to open the survey. The link in this email is personal to you and only you should complete the survey.

How long do the surveys take to complete?
Surveys usually take around 15 minutes to complete but this can vary depending on the questions being asked. We will tell you in the invitation email how approximately how long the survey should take and there is a progress bar in the survey to show you how much of the survey you have completed.

How long are surveys open for?
The surveys are usually open for a week, but some may close after one or two days, or even just a few hours. You will always be told when the survey will close. If you want to take part in the survey it is best to complete it as soon as possible after receiving the invitation.

What happens if I miss a survey?
It doesn’t matter if you miss a survey – we will keep sending them to you, unless you choose to leave SAYit. However if you do not complete any surveys in a 6 months period, your name may be placed on the inactive members list. We will then contact you, and check that you still want to participate in the surveys. If we don’t hear from you, we will remove your name from the SAYit Online Research Panel.

What happens if I complete a survey through the website?
Your opinions will be used, but because surveys on the website are open to anyone, not just members of SAYit, you will not qualify for any prizes. To qualify for prizes you must be registered as a SAYit member, and follow the link emailed to you in your SAYit survey invitation.
(See Prize terms and conditions)

How old do you have to be to join SAYit?
You must be 16 years or older to join SAYit.

Can anyone in the household complete the survey?
Only the SAYit member to whom the survey invitation has been sent should follow the email link and complete the survey. We need to know which SAYit member is completing the survey in order to correctly report the results.

Can more than one member of the household be a member of SAYit?
All members of the household over 16 years of age can join the SAYit panel, but each will need his or her own email address. However it is important that you complete the survey sent to you, and do not complete surveys sent to anyone else in the household.

Who is behind SAYit?
The SAYit Online Research Panel has been set up by UMR Research Ltd, an independent research company with over 20 years experience in opinion and issues research in New Zealand.

Does SAYit want me to answer in a particular way?
SAYit wants your genuine opinion what ever that may be. There are no right or wrong answers.
